11.40AM Eugene Gorman Handicap 1100m
Predicted speed: Not clear
The Smart Missile filly was a dominant winner second up when she had to do a bit of work and she has the fitness to go on here. Damien Thornton goes on, he’s been riding well and she holds race fitness, and experience over many of these.
1. SCOTTISH ROGUE
Beau Mertens takes the ride for Tony McEvoy and the gelding has won his last two outings. He comes back to 1100m but will be up on the speed. He was only 0.2L off Run Naan last prep who ran well behind Long Leaf (who finished 4th in the Group 1 Sires).
She ran well in her first two races last prep finishing only 1L off Ollivander over this trip. She was spelled after her miss and resumes here. Stephen Baster goes on, he was on for her debut.
He is very consistent and will be up on the speed. He comes back in trip which looks no issue, his only miss was over 1400m. The stable is very smart and with double figure odds available he’s decent each way odds.
12.15PM Trevor Clarke Handicap 2500m
Predicted speed: Even
He’s in fantastic form having won his last two outings over 2400m. He stays down in the weights and should get a nice sit just off the speed.
3. HURSLEY (NZ)
He’s been running on well in his last few outings and ran a solid second over this trip here last June. He’s a solid each way chance.
4. CHOYSA (NZ)
He comes back sharply in trip from 3200m here when he didn’t have the clearest of runs. He finished second behind Lycurgus over 2400m two starts back when carrying 60.5kg. He has 54.5kg in this and should be close to the speed.
2. SWACADELIC (GER)
He also comes back in trip here after running a very solid second over 3200m in the Listed Andrew Ramsden last start. His only win here has been over this trip and if he handles stepping back 700m he should be in the finish.
12.50PM Bruce Gadsden Handicap 1400m
Predicted speed: Even
1. ISLAND DAZE
She ran on very well here last start over 1200m and the 1400m looks like it will suit her perfectly. She should get a nice trail midfield.
5. HINCHIN TIME
She has a very good overall record and both wins to date have been over this trip. She has drawn well and is in light after Lachlan King’s claim.
She was a big 9.6L winner over this trip last start in Maiden company and this is harder but she has the confidence and fitness. She should get a nice trail just off the speed and Beau Mertens goes on.
9. REMEMBER THE NAME
She wasn’t disgraced here last prep in Group 2 company finishing less than 3L off Bring Me Roses. She resumed well this prep making ground late and out to 1400m suits. She won her maiden when stepping out to this trip last prep.
1.25PM L.V. Lachal Handicap 1800m
Predicted speed: Slow
1. SECOND BULLET
He’s in good form and this p here. He ran on well last start placing behind Boon Time when they ran time. There’s no speed on paper and from the wider draw he can sit closer.
He ran well last start finishing a good second and steps out to 1800m here. He gets some weight relief dropping from 60.5kg to 54.5kg and Regan Bayliss goes on. He ran well during the Spring carnival.
He ran on very solidly here last start over this trip finishing a 0.5L third. Beau Mertens stays on and there may not be enough speed to benefit him greatly, he is going well and can be in the finish.
4. QUICK DEFENCE (USA)
He ran very well over this trip here two starts back finishing third and 1L off Boom Time. He went to BM84 grade last start carrying 59kg and ran fairly. He gets a bit of weight relief down to 56kg and Stephen Baster goes on.
2.05PM Ken Cox Handicap 1000m
Predicted speed: Fast
He resumes here for Henry Dwyer. He has a very good overall record and is a good fresh horse. He has twice won over 1000m and any rain won’t deter him. There does look to be a bit of speed in this which will benefit him.
3. LADY ESPRIT
All of her wins have been over 1000m and she ran well here over this trip a month ago. She is a Listed winner over this trip earlier this prep.
4. SUNDAY ESCAPE
He was very consistent last prep with all runs being between 955 and 1000m. He won one and placed in a further two. He has drawn out which should suit if they don’t go to the rail.
2. MALIBU STYLE
He won here over this trip two starts back with the perfect run just off the speed. Fred Kersley stays on and back to 1000m suits. He should get a nice trail just behind the speed again here.
2.45PM TAB/ATA Celebrated Women Trainers Handicap 1400m
Predicted speed: Fast
9. MILES OF KRISHAN
She has jumped out well coming into this and has won over 1400m. This field isn’t as deep as the Spring races she was running in last prep. Fred Kersley goes on.
He has been running quite consistently this prep and won over this trip two starts back. He has placed here and gets some weight relief in this with Lachlan King’s claim.
He’s third up in this and gets out to a winnable trip. He hasn’t won for a long time but is an each way chance in this. He comes back to drier ground which is no disadvantage.
She ran very well two starts back over this trip and grade finishing only 0.4L off the winner. She has drawn out in this but there looks to be a decent speed on paper which is going to suit her. She likes Flemington.
3.25PM Rod Johnson Handicap 1400m
Predicted Speed: Fast
3. MORTON’S FORK
He ran very well last prep after being gelded and has placed here (a 0.2L second behind Comin’ Through). He has run well behind Hey Doc and that form makes him a solid chance here. His jumpout was only average but the stable rarely pushes their runners during jumpouts. He maps well and Regan Bayliss goes on.
14. URBAN RULER
Off his run last start he’s a solid each way chance in this. Drawing barrier 1 is a big of a negative but if Jye can get him off the rail he’s sure to be in the finish. He’s improving with each run in and gets some nice weight relief.
5. COOL CHAP
He’s a month off coming into this and stepping back in trip. His first up run this prep was over 1400m here and he ran very well. He likes Flemington, he was only 0.5L off Humidor here second up so he is definitely up to these. If he handles the step back in trip, he’s sure to be in the finish.
He made a lot of ground late here last start in Listed company and the extra trip and predicted fast tempo in this is going to suit him. He’s under the limit after Zac Spain’s claim.
4.05PM Henry Bolte Handicap 2000m
Predicted speed: Even
4. MAZZURO (NZ)
He won his maiden very well when having his first start over 2000m. He went back slightly to 2100m last start and won well again. Jye McNeil stays on here and he looks a good each way chance in the big field providing he gets luck from the inner draw.
9. BLACK AND TAN
She ran on strongly over 1600m last start with the 2000m here looking like it will suit her well. She comes back against the males but did run a very solid 0.9L 4th behind Peaceful State two starts back. On that, she’s good enough to be in the finish here.
7. MR MONACO
He’s a good middle distance horse with a consistent overall record. He stepped out to 2100m a fortnight ago and ran on solidly to finish second behind Mazzuro who he meets here again but in better at the weights. There looks to be even speed in the race and he should be every chance providing he doesn’t get caught in traffic from barrier 1.
He backs up here and steps out in trip off a solid 2nd at Moonee Valley over 1600m last week. He goes up in the weights and has drawn wide but will likely get back and be powering home late.
4.40PM Ron Taylor Handicap 1000m
Predicted speed: Fast
He comes back to 1000m after a solid run in Group 2 company last start. He was a Listed winner prior. He has drawn wide which should be a benefit by this stage of the day and Beau Mertens goes back on. Back onto drier ground suits.
The Snitzel colt is only lightly raced and did win down the straight last February. He’ll be up on the speed from the wide draw. He ran well behind Jukebox early Spring last year.
12. MISS LEONIDAS
She won impressively on the heavy track last start in BM78 company and meets a similar class here but does come against the males. She has drawn in but they may come down the centre of the track by this stage. Dwayne Dunn stays on.
He will get back in this and Jye McNeil goes back on. He gets some weight relief and should get enough speed to benefit him.
