Caulfield Map

Race 1
1.30pm Thebigscreencompany.com.au Handicap 1800m
Speed: Even
Most advantaged: Just behind pace

3. TASHBEEH
He’s in strong form and won here at 1800m two starts back after a good win with light weight a fortnight ago. From barrier 2 he should get an easy run up near the pace and the even pace will suit. He was Group 3 placed last prep.
10. PIN YOUR HOPES (NZ)
He is third up here and drops 5kg from his last outing where he ran on well. He has drawn wide and will probably sit near the tail of the field.

7. FAST AND FREE
He ran well behind Radical at his last outing and stays in light with the weights here.

MAIN DANGER
9. ABBASSO
This is his first outing at Caulfield from 33 starts! He’s third up and drops down to 54kg. D.Oliver is back on. He almost beat The United States last prep. He would prefer a softer track but has the class to be very competitive here.

Race 2
2.00pm Kevin Hayes Stakes 1200m
Speed: Even
Most advantaged: Just behind pace

5. MOSSIN’ AROUND
She has no bad runs to her name from three starts, two being at 1200m which she meets here. She is progressing through the grades and keeps running up to the challenges. She was good behind Hellbent in the Inglis Bash against males. She is back to Fillies grade here.

2. RISQUE (NZ)
This is her first start in Australia, she won at Group 1 level back in November in NZ and is certainly an interesting runner here. She won her maiden by 11L back in September!

8. MAKE HER OWN WHEY
She ran on strongly to finish third behind Heatherly at huge odds a fortnight ago. She will be at big odds again and can run a sneaky place. She must be included in multiples.

MAIN DANGER
1. CALAVERITE
Forgive her resuming run on a soft track where she had a slow recovery. She has a good record at 1200m and has placed at Group 3 level. The even speed will suit her, she will be just behind the leaders.

Race 3
2.30pm Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (F) 1100m
Speed: Even
Most advantaged: Just behind pace

3. CALLIOPE
She missed the start at her first outing and ran on to win like a good thing. I’m not a big fan of backing horses running anti-clockwise for the first time but she was impressive and her 4L trial win tells me she’s ready. She has drawn well with barrier 5. She can sit closer from there but the speed map isn’t 100% clear.

1. SWORD OF LIGHT
I really like her but drawing barrier 13 has a big cross against it. She will be working early and I don’t believe we’ve seen the best of her and she could impress but it is an ask.  Her 5.2L win on debut was ultra impressive. She then ran here and won softly in Group 3 company.

5. EMPHATICALLY
She is still a maiden but has been running well and placing in black type at her last two outings after an average debut where she was ridden cold. She has drawn well here and will be up near the pace.

MAIN DANGER
7. SAMARA DANCER (NZ)
I am wary when Phillip Stokes brings his runners over. Her debut was strong where she won by 3.1L in November and has been spelled since. The blinkers go on here and she has been found in the market. Her opening price of $11 has already come into $6.50 (as of Saturday morning).

Race 4
3.00pm Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) 1100m
Speed: not clear

2. COHESION
His resuming win at Listed level here was strong and he can go on here. He has drawn wide and will do a bit of work getting to the pace but by looking at the runners who have started, it doesn’t look to be an overly fast speed. Ben Melham stays on from that win.

3. STAR TURN
His 3L win back in November was impressive. He won a trial at the end of January.
8. EL VENETIAN
He ran on strongly here in Listed company at his first start. He has drawn wide and will be of the speed but he is an each way chance if they are running on.

MAIN DANGER

7. FLYING ARTIE
He was good on debut in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate and meets a similar field here. D.Oliver is on and may choose to ride him over Extreme Choice in the Blue Diamond if he starts. He won a trial by 3.5L a fortnight ago.

Race 5
3.30pm Schweppes Rubiton Stakes 1100m
Speed: Fast
Most advantaged: Off pace

3. POLITENESS
She absolutely flew last prep working her way from the Group 3 How Now to a strong win in the Group 1 Myer Classic. This is a Group 2 but a much easier field than she met during the spring. She has three wins from 8 starts here and has won at 1100m though it is her lowest win distance. There looks to be enough speed here to suit her.

11. HEATHERLY
She keeps stepping up to the challenges thrown at her and has won her last two. This is harder but she drops down to a feather light 51kg and has drawn well with barrier 3. She will be up on the pace and will be very hard to catch if we see a leader bias.

10. LAKE GENEVA
She is first up here and from two first up tries has a first and a 2nd. She only carries 51kg here and was competitive in Group company last prep. She ran on strongly in the Group 3 Red Roses at 1100m during the Spring Carnival where she drew wide and finished 3rd after being at the tail of the field at the 400m mark.

MAIN DANGER
6. TRIED AND TIRED
He is always there abouts and the blinkers go on here. He has no wins at 1100m and may want further but the blinkers may just do the trick.

Race 6
4.00pm Hyland Race Colour Autumn Stakes 1400m
Speed: Fast
Most advantaged:  Off pace

1. MAHUTA
He is unbeaten at 1400m from three starts and unbeaten since the blinkers went on five starts back. His last 5 wins have all been dominant and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him. He will need to run against the speed but I believe he is good enough to overcome that and win here.

3. TARZINO
His 2L Group 1 Derby Win during the Spring Carnival was impressive and dominant. He is definitely the class runner here and has only had one prep so I can’t comment on his first up record. He has run well and won here.

4. HOLLER
His resuming win in Group 2 company was good but this field looks a bit tougher. He does sneak up in the weights here.

MAIN DANGER
9. SNOOPY
He has won second up but has drawn badly here. He has drawn wide here previously and was ridden cold but didn’t make much of an impact. He does look talented though and is one for the multiples.

Race 7
4.30pm Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes 1400m
Speed: Even
Most advantaged: Just behind pace

7. TURN ME LOOSE
He has two 2nd placings from three first up runs. He had a good trial in NZ recently which he led and won. He hasn’t had a start here but his four runs in Australia during the Spring Carnival were very good, having won 3 of them! The speed looks even here, and from barrier 10 he may sit up on or right behind the pace.

4. LUCKY HUSSLER
He loves Caulfield and has second up form. I can’t fault him and this is a difficult race. He ran well at WFA last prep behind Turn Me Loose but the step up to be competitive in Group 1 company is a big one. He did win the Magic Millions Cup on 9th January well and has been kept fresh.

3. BOBAN
He is at nice odds here and won the Group 1 Memsie at WFA well here last prep. That was at 1400m as well. He has a good first up record and has had two soft trials prior to today. He is 2 wins from 3 starts at 1400m here. However, he has drawn barrier 13. This doesn’t matter too much as he will sit off the pace, but wide barriers rarely produce winners.

MAIN DANGER
17. SUAVITO
She is at big odds here and complete overs in my opinion. Her first up record is very strong and she won the Group 1 Futurity here at 1400m when first up last prep! She has drawn barrier 1 and will sit just behind the pace.

Race 8
5.00pm The Cup Club T.S. Carlyon Cup 1600m
Speed: Slow
Most advantaged: On pace

6. BURNING FRONT
He is very consistent and hasn’t finished outside the trifecta in his last 6 starts. He had an easy win at his most recent outing by 2.8L where he carried 59kg and he gets a bit of weight relief here dropping down to 56kg. He will be up on the pace and with a slow speed predicted he looks like a very strong chance here.

4. DANCES ON STARS (NZ)
The winkers go on here, D.Oliver stays on and he has drawn well with barrier 3. He has no wins at 1600m but he should have the fitness to be competitive here.

11. PURE KARMA
He backs up after running on well in BM78 grade here last Saturday. This is harder but he is in fine form and drawn to get a good run.

MAIN DANGER
3. GALLANTE (IRE)
He is at big odds and drifting as I speak. However he is resuming after having the ultimate gear chance (gelded) and we could see a sharp improvement.

Race 9
5.30pm Mypunter.com Bellmaine Stakes 1200m
Speed: Even
Most advantaged: Just behind pace

1. WAWAIL
She has three wins from 4 starts when resuming and runs well here. Damian Lane takes the ride (late change) and she has form around some very good mares! She was only 0.1L off Politeness last prep. She has drawn well with barrier 2, will be up with the pace and will take some catching.

9. AZKADELLIA (NZ)
She is unbeaten first up and trialled okay. She has only ran outside the trifecta on 1 occasion from her 9 starts. She ran on strongly in the Group 1 Myer Classic to finish 3rd beaten 0.9L behind Politeness.

5. TUSCAN SLING
She is in good form but this is harder however she does come back to mares grade. She will get an easy run with cover from barrier 7.

MAIN DANGER
6. MISS STEELE
She has a good second up record and ran well when resuming where she was boxed in with no run at critical stages. She was only 1L off Miracles of Life in the Group 1 Sangster last prep.
